Prelude to Arrival, then Magnificent Saturated Presence

Written 3-29-2017

Imagine you hear a dragon in the distance across a small lush valley.

At times, you actually see it and hear it more clearly before it dips out of sight again. It keeps appearing and disappearing but it constantly moves closer to your position. Eventually it arrives to completely dominate your space. It’s powerful. It’s beautiful. It’s sensual. It’s a little funny. Nothing can be more amazing!

In a way, all artist are different dragons that play this peekaboo game with us. They can be musicians, writers, film makers, politicians, painters.

They get our attention, then they might disappear for a moment or two before they’re back more magnificent than ever! Their stamina, energy, and talent overwhelm us!

In another way, this was our evening tonight.

A friend at Sharon’s work has a 12-year-old daughter who plays the viola and we were invited to see her in concert tonight at Vancouver School of Arts and Academics.

The concert included middle school musicians followed by high school musicians followed by traveling college musicians. Throughout the night the music became more intense, crisper, more powerful until that damn dragon was in the room with us!

Sometimes, these personal invites produce the most enchanting evenings!
